The Burning Question: Should SRK, Sallu And Aamir Films Be Boycotted?

Not so long ago, the controversial BJP leader and preacher Sadhvi Prachi  accused Nobel Laureate Mother Teresa of proselytising in the name of religious services. Sadhvi, who had earlier stoked anti-Muslim sentiments in India by alleging that the Hindus were in danger of being dwarfed by the minority community with the onslaught of a ‘love jihad’, has now called for a boycott of films starring Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan saying that their films are spreading a “culture of violence.”

I, for one, would ask the Bajrangis to tear the posters of films of Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan of the walls and burn them in the fire of Holi, she told a gathering in Dehradun on Sunday.

SpotboyE.com spoke to a cross-section of people to find out if they endorse Sadhvi's views.Their comments were loaded with anger and scorn.

Love and religion are so pure in itself that they cannot be degraded by such comments.Actors are soft targets. Why do we not see any such comments on our cricketers or politicians?

Sadhvi can stay away from all the movies, but its none of her business whether someone is learning something from Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khans movies or not. Can she please mind her own business?

Deepti Mishra, 30, Housewife

Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir have never showed anything in their movies which is anti-Hinduism. So, Sadhvi can divert her attention to bigger issues at hand. She can just go and do what she wants and NOT tell others what they should be doing.

Amit Shukla, 33, Bank Employee

I dont watch Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khans films. So, frankly, I dont care for what Sadhvi or anyone else has to say about their films. She is entitled to an opinion like crores of us in this country. And like her, crores of us have a mind of our own.

Anamika Pandey, 22, Student

If you dont like Shah Rukh and Salmans movies, please dont watch Sadhvi! We are mature enough to make our own decisions. We dont need your opinion.

Anuradha Sainath, 35, Writer

I think Sadhvi fell in love with Sallu bhai when she saw Maine Pyaar Kiya (MPK). Remember that famous orange shirt of Sallu which he wore in MPK? Till date, Sadhvi wears only orange! There you go Sadhvi to gets your five minutes of fame. Now whenever you Google anything about her, this ban on Bollywood films will pop up. That was the idea behind the remark. Hang your ban, Sadhvi.

Aanchal Shetty, 35, Manager Copcom

Majority of SRK, Salman and Aamir's films have had them playing Hindu characters who are shown following all the traditions of Hinduism. If anything, these guys promote only gentlemanly behaviour, their characters teach our men to be better sons, husbands and fathers. Anyway, religion and love should have the freedom to reside together as both have their own place in society.

Sanjay Chowdhary, 35, Graphic Designer

I think we should look at Sadhvis comment positively. Basically she wants all the older heroes to retire or play characters their age, so the younger actors get a chance to take over. And of course, they will romance the new breed of actresses.

Vaibhav Pankaj, 30, Associate Creative Director

Films are a source of entertainment and actors are merely doing their job. The audience loves them for the characters they portray on screen. Sadhvi's comment is nonsensical. We have bigger issues in our country to tackle.

Janhavi Kulkarni, 28, Architect

I would like to remind Sadhvi that Khans are popular for their roles of Hindu boys like Rahul and Prem. No actor who has the ability to entertain people should be banned. Entertaining people is the objective of being an actor, right? Sadhvi can do what she likes and let the audience enjoy whatever they like.
